Millions are in lockdown and quarantined during this year’s Easter. Indeed, a time for believers to reflect and draw important lessons and question the state of the body of Christ (the church).
One important starting point is the rise of prophets true and false. The unchecked false prophets who have ravaged pure faith and made a mockery of Christianity.
The effects of false prophets who have contaminated true worship is now evident and clear for all to see. Many who have and continue to hoodwink gullible followers into believing that they possessed healing powers have been exposed as nothing but charlatans by this COVID-19.
In today’s world when one thinks of false prophets and false teachers, one tends to think of those who espouse an obviously false doctrine. We presume that false prophets and false teachers never use the bible but that is where the church is getting it wrong.
The modern-day false prophets and teachers are sleek, smartly dressed, Bible-quoting, miracle performers and herein lies the “strength” of these false prophets the charlatans….they are speaking to the spiritually deaf and blind.
They speak to an audience that loves miracles more than the saving word of God’s truth. They speak to a following mesmerised by the lure of miracle wealth and prosperity. They speak to the spiritually blind.
Because of this innate blindness, the gullible followers of these false prophets and teachers are EASILY led astray.
Satan is not stupid.
Satan does not send his false teachers and prophets to the strong ones who have a flowing, living, hearing, seeing the relationship with the Living God and read the scriptures with understanding inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Rather he sends them to the weak, blind, and spiritually lame, the stragglers who are behind.
And since most fall under this category, he easily leads the Body as a whole astray, few escaping his seductive voice spoken through his “prophets”.
The body of Christ (the church) has often assumed that such individuals are associated with small radical groups on the fringes of society.
However, I reiterate: there are false prophets and false teachers who have or at least claim to have mega Churches. They command a great following and huge congregations, claim Church endorsement to their products and practices. Beware of such.
False prophets are amongst us. They work usually by fear, deceit, falsity, and manipulation.
“There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.” (2 Peter 2:1)
There are no “ifs, ands, or buts” in Peter’s words. It’s a clear and definite statement. There were false prophets among the people (of Israel in the Old Testament).
That’s a matter of history. False prophets were a constant problem in the Old Testament, and those who falsely claimed to be prophets of God were to be stoned.
The people rarely had the will to deal with them, so they multiplied, causing disaster to the spiritual life of God’s people.
In the same way, Peter says, “There will be false teachers among you.” Notice the words “among you.” Peter is writing to the church and says, “There will be false prophets among you.”
So he is not talking about New Age people on television. He is talking about people in the local church, members of a local congregation.
Those who flatter you by refusing to preach the absolute necessity of repenting, taking up the cross daily and following Jesus…. Are setting you up for the kill …. You may vainly believe that it’s all fun and games now but the judgment is coming if you don’t repent and diligently study and adhere to the whole counsel of God’s Word.
When you do truly repent, you will no longer put yourself under a smooth-talking wolf who refuses to preach the whole counsel of the original Gospel of Christ (Isaiah 30:9-10; 2 Timothy 4:2-4).
As you contemplate and ponder on this message this Easter under lockdown conditions caused by COVID-19, reflect on the state of the church, the rise of prophets and so-called healers and their famed prophetic schools. Ask yourself where are those healers now? Where are they hiding in the midst of this battle with coronavirus?
God is teaching the church to rely only on Him. He has exposed these so-called prophets as nothing but charlatans.
Have a spirit-filled Easter.
