Inimitable gospel artiste Mathias Mhere has released his much-anticipated album Old Testament which set to propel him to the summit. The spiritually-uplifting 12 track album, which is full of anointing from end to end, was launched on Saturday at the exquisite 7 Arts Theatre. Such was the glamour and glitz as top Government officials, fellow artistes, religious leaders and the corporate world endorsed Mhere’s album.
The opening cut, Nhamo Yekuzvipa has a high tempo, though spiritually uplifting, as it drives one into liking the entire project. Error is the follow up track, followed by Zvinatsei and Nyasha Ndini which leave one yearning for paradise. Dhindindi Full Time comes in fifth with a high tempo. This is the track that featured veteran Zex Manatsa. Other tracks on the album are Judas Iscariot, Vana VaJesu which featured Mkhululi Bhebhe, Munyaradzi, Kuzodza, Ndikoko, Bye Bye and Tenda. In short, the album is a must have not only to Christians but to all music lovers.
Among the Government officials who graced the event were Minister Saviour Kasuwere, Tourism deputy Minister Anastancia Ndhlovu who stood in for Minister Walter Mzembi and officials from the ZTA led by Chief Executive Karikoga Kaseke. ZANU PF youth chair Kudzanai Chipanga was also in attendance. Besides government officials, fellow musicians Tatenda Mahachi, Rev Chivaviro, Sebastian Magacha, Baba Manyeruke, Bethany Pasinawako-Ngolomi and Fungisai were all in attendance and performed much to the pleasure of many. Several men of cloth among them Prophet Tapuwa Freddy, Prophet Rwanga from Domboshava, pastor Dambura all came in support and bought the singer’s album with amounts ranging from US$500 to US$2 000.
Speaking to H-Metro, Mhere said, “I’m humbled by the support I got for this project, from government officials, the clergy and fellow musicians. It is encouraging and we will keep working hard,” he said. A foot injury to a member of his band could not deter Mathias Mhere in the successful launch of his sixth album Old Testament. Rumbi Mparutsa had an injury just before them went on stage but she soldiered on and inspired her fellow band members through put their set, performing songs from the new album. “It was unfortunate that she sustained an injury but she soldiered on and manged to pull through the whole set which was an inspiration to us,” said the singer.
A man of cloth bought Mhere’s album Old Testament for $500 and he will continue rendering his support where possible. Famed for miracle spectacles, Prophet Freddy said despite being a musician, he supports everything that results in the glorification of God’s name. “I’m a musician myself and I understand that support is needed. It is a stressing job that needs support. Despite me being a musician, I support everything that result in God’s name being glorified. Despite the general support I give to the body of Christ, Mhere is more like a brother to me, we have known each other for a while now and he sometimes comes at our church to perform,” he said.
As a musician Prophet Freddy has three albums namely Messiah released in 2002, Serevende in 2006 and his latest album titled 100 percent prophetic released last year.The man of cloth gave a closing prayer at the launch.He also joined other men of cloth such as prophet Rwanga.
