When trying to keep up with peers, many youths feel the urge to try to relate. It can be helpful to stay current on cultural and social trends, but it is not a requirement. The most effective way is self-actualization. Rather focus on staying connected to God and pointing other youths to Him rather than trying to appear cool. Be aware of aware, but stay true to yourself.
Being culturally aware is a noble goal, as long as you remember to maintain your identity along the way. Do not try to fit in with a certain crowd by acting out of character, this is being fake. After all, here is biblical evidence of the importance of staying true to you.
Don’t try to fit in with the ungodly.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
1 Peter 4:4 Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.
Never compare yourself to other people
Galatians 1:10 Am I saying this now to win the approval of people or God? Am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ’s servant.
Remember Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light”
