Fasting is most underrated type of worship by many Christians. It is a very important of every believer to fortify their relationship with God. What people don’t understand is that even how you start your fast plays a significant part on how successful it will be. It must be seeded in your mind that fasting seeks God rather than mere answers. Fasting done for any reason less than the love of God will result in something far less than worship. Love of God makes fasting spiritually fruitful or else it will quickly turn into an arrogant type of bribery or sheer frustration.
There are steps to follow that will make your time with the Lord more meaningful and spiritual. This will make your fasting better rather than just an excuse to feel sorry for yourself. If you follow these the Lord will place his hand upon the latter and lodge them deeply like anchors within your soul, which is quite a feast for the soul.
Set an objective
This is the reason why you fasting, may it be spiritual renewal, for guidance, for healing or simply for special grace. Ask the Holy Spirit to clarify his leading in your fast. Rather focus on worshiping the Lord instead of being stressed over temporary needs. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn form their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
When you fasting, it must be your first priority to establish a connection or relationship with God. One should make sure they are dedicated and sincere because they are the foundation of a successful fast. Matthew 6:16 says, “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.”Outline how long your fast will take, type of fast, activities you going to restrict yourself from and the time you will devote to the word of God.
Prepare yourself (Mind, Body and Soul)
When preparing your soul and mind it is important to start by submitting yourself. What do I mean? Confess your sins and seek forgiveness. 1 john 1:9 tells us that if we confess, the Lord is faithful he will forgive us. Ask God to fill your heart with the holy spirit so that you may overcome any temptations from the devil. Above all have an expectant heart and don’t underestimate spiritual opposition because surely temptations will come your way. The bible tells us to be diligent and watchful.
End Gradually and Expect results
It advisable that after fasting one starts eating small snacks and gradually return to their normal diet. This will help your body to regain its normal circulation gradually. Above all the above the most important part to make your fast successful is sincerity. It is the key and if you humble yourself, repent, pray and meditate the Lord will surely answer your prayers. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
